Annals of Medicine: The Cost Conundrum
"McAllen has another distinction, too: it is one of the most expensive
health-care markets in the country. Only Miami--which has much higher labor
and living costs--spends more per person on health care. In 2006, Medicare
spent fifteen thousand dollars per enrollee here, almost twice
the national average. The income per capita is twelve thousand dollars.
In other words, Medicare spends three thousand dollars more per person
here than the average person earns."

Attorney to investigate worker's death
"Family members of Facundo Gonzalez, the 33-year-old Farmingville construction
worker who died on January 5 after he was pinned beneath
a wall that collapsed at a work site in Southampton Village,
have hired a law firm to investigate his death.'We’ve been
retained to look into the matter and determine whether or
not there’s
any liability or responsibility,' said
Ricardo A. Garcia, a partner with Garcia & Karam, a law firm in McAllen,
Texas, on Monday."

Playtime precaution: Experts inform parents about keeping tabs on children's toys
"Safety experts are reminding parents to take a closer look at the toys they buy for their children as Christmas approaches.
Parents walking through bargain stores might be tempted to buy lower quality toys for less than $5, rather than shell out for pricier playthings. However, officials of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and consumer watchdog organizations encourage parents to exercise caution and common sense in the purchase of toys to avoid injuries and even poisoning."
